Time really does fly here at CarCulture, as it doesn’t feel anything like a year since the last Al Khoory Subaru Track Day. Now in its third year, it’s a mark in every Subaru owner’s calendar within the region. With a good mix of both existing loyal and new customers, the turnout on the day was strong with around 50 cars showing up. Unfortunately this time around my supercharged BRZ was left at home, due too some long overdue maintenance. But that didn’t stop us checking out the action on track.

The formula for the day remained unchanged from last year, and after a short briefing, drivers were split into three groups.

Each group had two 20 minute sessions on the club circuit layout, and the final session was ran as an open pit lane which lasted for a good 30-40 minutes. Giving everyone plenty of track time, which customers could explore the limits of their cars in a safe environment.

STis were as ever, the dominate model, but the event was open to both WRXs and BRZSs too. As with previous years, Subaru’s iconic blue was the stand out choice of colour. When it comes to STis black isn’t the obvious choice, in fact this is the only black 2017 in Dubai. And it sure looks good, and makes a change from the obvious blue or white which is the most common choice.

We spotted more than a few familiar faces…and a few familiar cars. We hadn’t seen Hussein’s old STI Hatch since it changed hands. This was one of the first Subarus we featured, and one we will never forget. On the track you will hear it long before seeing it blast past the main Grandstand. And its hard to miss its presence on the track considering the size of its wing. It’s definitely still the finest hatch within the UAE.

Hadi is more known for his Liberty Walk Whippled Challenger. New to Subaru ownership he recently picked up one of the very last 2017 STis. Don’t go expecting any widebody mods here though, as Hadi is going for an all-out performance/track build with his STi. This will be something to keep an eye on.

Kelvin has recently sold his 86 to make way for a 2017 STi and he was getting used to Subaru’s AWD technology on the track. A completely new experience compared to the 86/BRZ.

And whilst on the subject of BRZs, we had great fun watching this bone stock BRZ upset its bigger brothers on the track. Proof that power isn’t everything especially on Dubai Autodrome’s club circuit.

Drivers were kept refreshed throughout the day upstairs in Dubai Autodrome’s lounge. At the end of the day everyone was sent home with a free goody bag from Al Khoory which included their famous Subaru wallet.

With the day finishing before sunset we were left thinking how quickly will next year disappear and we will be left standing at the 2018 Al Khoory Subaru Track Day. So until next time……
