Round 4 of the UAE AutoX Championship 2017, organized by the Emirates Motorsports Club, was held in Ras Al Khaimah. This round had all the makings of a great event, until the weekend's rains threw an unexpected twist to the proceedings, causing drivers to rethink their attack of the twisty course and to watch for the water clogged track. Naturally, this meant that we saw a number of high speed incidents (thankfully though all the drivers walked away without injury). It was an exciting day, which saw two categories with less than a second between the top competitors……. as well as a surprising change at the top step of the podium for one.
In the stock category, Marawan Al Rahmani took 5th for the +971 track team in his BRZ with a time of 1:32:704. Nabil Kassab finished 4th with a time of 1:30:217 in his Focus ST. Less than 1.5 seconds separated the top three, with Samer A Malak driving his Focus ST to 3rd with a time of 1:28:557 and Robert Aarau settling for 2nd in his Renault Clio RS with a time of 1:27:192. It was Ibrahim Abouelgheit who took the top step in his M3 with a winning time of 1:27:027.
In the modified category, Samer A Malak drove his Focus ST to 5th with a time of 1:28:399. 4th was taken by Marwan Al Rahmani in his Toyota 86 with a time of 1:26:239. Mohamad Dabbous drove his Subaru Impreza WRX STI to 3rd with a time of 1:25:638. Robert Aaraj took his second 2nd spot of the day, finishing with a time of 1:24:946 in his Clio RS. Wissam Hatem just about edged ahead though, with a time of 1:24:915 in his Mustang.
In the race category, Sheikh Abdulla Al Qassimi brought his feisty Ford Fiesta to 5th, with a time of 1:24:854. Three time winner Mohamad Chehab, only managed 3rd in his Silver Car ST2 with a time of 1:22:886. This left team Sam Performance to fight it out amongst themselves for the top step . Wael Mustafa took 2nd in his Evo 9 with a time of 1:21:886. The top spot was in the end taken by Raad Haddad, as he threw his Evo 9 around the track in an insane time of 1:19:436.
The rain’s attempt to play spoilsport, completely failed as the drivers continued to made a great event of it. The competition also saw the infamous red Silver Car knocked off its usual top spot, making this round one to remember. Another great event by the Emirates Motorsports Club!!
